As an individual wishing to loss weight, what you eat speaks volume about the ultimate goal. In my weight loss program and experience, i have come up with recommendations for anyone wishing to loss excess body weight-the dos and dont's.Believe me it works miracles.
-Take lots and lots of water; you can carry a one litter bottle of water and when you finish add or buy another. This helps you to know how much litres you have taken in a day.Water helps the body in burning fats, the working of brain cells since 85% of our brains is water, ditoxification of our bodies, and quenches our thirst. It also reduces hunger in many occasion-a person at survive on water even without food for sometime.
-Excercise; you can jog, skip a rope, swim or do any excercise that will make you sweat.
-Eat lots and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
-Don't eat fried foods but instead eat grilled, boiled or steamed foods.
-Avoid foods rich in sugar content e.g Cakes, Cookies also soft drinks; if you cannot avoid taking soft drinks, then dilute it.
-Avoid caffeine-it slows down the fat burning process due to the increase in insulin level.
-Avoid pies they are made using alot of butter.
-Get rid of white bread and instead use whole meal bread-has higher fibre thus the food metabolises first using less energy and less or no fat is stored in our bodies.White flour cointain alot of empty calories of which the body will end up storing it and in turn have a hard time burning it.
-Eat small portions of foods and always be active throughout the day.
-Walk instead of taking lifts.
-Avoid taking fresh juice in some restaurants, many add sugar to it for taste. Instead make your own at home and don't add sugar to it. You can use a sieve to make it incase you don't have a blender.
-Carry packed lunch to your office; healthy food is hard to find and so to resist the temptation of eating junks carry food to the office.
-Avoid soft drinks for they more often use the alot of water in our bodies leaving us with very low amount.
-Never starve yourself. Most people who starve often tend to over-eat when they get a chance to eat thus causing their bodies to store much of the food as fat since the body cannot burn all of it for energy.
Urban Health-Still a challenge
By Evelyn Situma
Urban health continues to be a big challenge to many cities in the world, with the International Society for Urban Health (ISUH) predicting that three quarters of the world’s population will live in cities by middle of the 21st century. It is then crystal clear that urban health will continue to pose a great challenge to the development of these cities.
It then goes without saying that urban health is an important issue that should be addressed with immediate effect since many of the development goals are tied to it. For instance, the United Nations lists issues like Water, Sanitation and Health care among it’s MGD’S as vital components in achieving it’s goals.
In the bid to drive this point home and help governments find a solution to this menace, Nairobi is this week hosting a 5 day International conference on urban health (ICUH) with support from the Kenyan government, Africa Population Health and Research Center (APHRC) AND International Society of Urban Health (ISUH).
So far the conference, being the first to be held in Africa, seeks to address issues that revolve around urban health- ranging from housing to transportation; by mobilizing professionals in various related fields to share their experiences, challenges and knowledge on urban health for productive outcome.
The Conference has managed to play host to influential leaders and stakeholders like the former Mayor of Bogota, Colombia who has been a success story when it comes to urban health during his rein as the mayor of Bogota Enrique Penalosa. With such a see believe example, it is then a wish of many that the participants who include; leaders of urban health research, policy makers and members of the forth estate will come up with practical solutions to be implemented for a healthy urban Society.
